Shri N J Yasaswy
A Bouquet of Reminiscences
Intelligence and cleverness, great lineage, control of the senses, scientific pursuit, fearlessness, measured speech, philanthropy and gratitude are the qualities that differentiate a great man.
He was a man of great charm and an attraction among his classmates, juniors and seniors as well. He was venerated by equals; emulated by juniors and appreciated by teachers. To put it briefly, he was a ‘friend, philosopher and guide’ to us in our lives.
Born on 9th February, at Tenali in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N J Yasaswy was the only child of Shri Nandury Venkateswara Rao, a teacher and Smt. Seetharamamma.
Shri N. J. Yasaswy, the visionary founder of the Icfai group of educational institutions, was a great human being. He was indubitably a versatile genius and a man of many parts. That aside, he had a tremendous capacity to take risks but always launched every initiative with an amazing clarity: ‘ours is a private effort with a public purpose." Being an erudite leader, whenever a new initiative was undertaken, he would invariably emphasize to his colleagues: "We are aiming at a future beyond our ken and control; let us, therefore, be open to learn and steer through cautiously."
Shri Yasaswy was a great teacher. Looking at his innate strengths, plus his tremendous ability to think laterally and his excellent ability to articulate, Yasaswy was one in a million and it was an absolute privilege remembering him as a....

A Man of Many Parts

Time Spent with Us
My Author, My Friend.....
Mr.Kapil Malhotra
N J Yasaswy was one of the best men it’s been my privilege to have met; both a singular visionary and a dynamic karma yogi. More, he was so straight forward. I say this not as an exaggerated tribute for his memorial volume but in utter sincerity.
Obstacles are Opportunities....
Mr.Rajeshwar Rao
I feel so fortunate to have had such quality time with him with no distractions, many times just the two of us and other times, the four of us. Jabili and I observed his willingness to assist in setting the dining table and also for bringing other subjects to the conversations during dinner time. The one week we spent together felt like just a few hours, and we wished we had more time to spend with him. Unless you were lucky enough to have had a personal encounter with Yasaswy, you do not understand what a wonderful and smart person he was. He was God’s gift to society, and he used his time on earth to enlighten the many lives who came across his path.
The Man and His Legacy......
Mr.C M Prasad
So long, my friend, you have my hearty admiration for the way you conducted yourself without any indulging or wasting time, you worked and worked and made your colleagues, students represent your nurturing for a very long time to come after you left on your voyage to heaven. I wish you did not have to leave us all in this sad and empty state of mind the way you had to.
Shri N J Yasaswy (1950 - 2011), Founder of the ICFAI

During 1974–1989, Mr Yasaswy was associated with the Administrative Staff College of India as a Faculty Member.
In 1981, he started his consultancy firm, Yasaswy Management Associates (P) Limited, Hyderabad. Mr Yasaswy served on the Board of Studies of Nagarjuna University
(1978-80). He was appointed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Trading Corporation (1985-88), and Vice Chairman, Public Enterprises Management Board(1986-88).

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA), Switzerland. He authored several books on financee and investments.Mr Yasaswy set up the ICFAI group as a single institute in 1985 without governmental sops or institutional funding, in an era where government support was the norm.
He chose to spend all his energy on the fledging institution which over the years grew to become a monument to what ambition can deliver. He was instrumental in building several business schools and about a dozen universities in the developing states of India, particularly in the North East region.
The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education in Hyderabad occupies pride of place among several institutions he started and was close to his heart. He stood for professional management, excellence in the quality of education offered in the ICFAI institutions, and absolute discipline. He was charismatic, a great teacher, an institution builder, a visionary and a genius who was years ahead of his time.
His vision will continue to guide ICFAI forever.
